This Week in Hobby – 10.18.16

It’s been a rainy stormy week here in the Pacific Northwest … I spent more time preparing things for the storm than doing any hobby work.

But I did do some minor painting on these two DarkAge Brood Sawblades. My push to get all the Brood done is slowly moving forward.

But, I picked these up on eBay which kinda sets that goal back a little.  These pick-ups finish my Brood. I now have all the current choices for Brood in DarkAge.

Along with these miniature picks – I grabbed this set for my Infinity USAriadna. I’m hoping that I can get some mobile speed into my list soon.

On top of all that I received my “This Is Not A Test” Kickstarter this week. I’ve had just a few moments checking it out. Next time I’ll do a quick breakdown of what I picked up.  I love Kickstarter stuff … sometimes you wait quite a long time for stuff – but it’s always good stuff. And with the time delay sometimes it’s a nice surprise waiting in the mailbox.

BloodBowl – Stunty Leeg Week 4. Well not a lot to say about this one – TöeJam loss yet again. This time a blow out against another Goblin Cheaters team the “Red Cloud Revers”.

I’m beginning to feel the grind with this BloodBowl season.  And my lack of playing this game regularly really shows. I’m thinking this will be the last league of BloodBowl I’ll be joining for awhile. One off games – sure. But league play really requires you to “know” the game. I simply don’t have the time to devote to BloodBowl. On top of that – their are so many other games I like to play… it would be hard to justify time to play more BloodBowl.

I say this now – but a new edition of BloodBowl is due out by the end of the year. Maybe a good human team will be a nice change?

This Week in Hobby – 10.10.16

Well things got pretty busy for me last week. I found myself this morning thinking I missed posting a couple things.  So before things get to far I’d better take care of it.

Last Tuesday I got my 3rd week BloodBowl match in with my friend “Evil” Bryan and his team “Pork Belly”.  His was a Gnoblars team. First time playing against a Gnoblar team … they are grabby and have ogres. It made me wonder again why can’t I have a troll in this Stunty league.

Back to the game … it all started out well – I received the ball at kickoff and proceeded to slowly move down the pitch.

About midway through the first half I had moved from the left side and swung over to the right to try and outrun the ogres (whom hit really hard). This seemed to be going well until I left just too much of a gap in the ball carrier protection.

A Gnoblar blitzed in – knocking the ball loose and it bounced into the stands. The happy fans tossed it back on the pitch – but way down the wrong way lol.

I scrambled to get gobbos back on the ball – but before I could a slimy Gnoblar snatched it up…

And with two goblins hot on his tail he ran it in for the score with 2 turns left in the half.

This is where things start to go bad… I failed my rolls and two of my cheaters got caught. And with two rounds left in the half I was receiving again. At this point I also was running tight on players due to the ogre hits as well.

I received and did what I could – but to no avail. – time was to short and the half ended.

This was crippling … I failed rolls and cheaters again got tossed out of the game.  Compounding this… I failed all my rolls to get my knocked out players back in the game.

I kicked off  for the second half …- and Pork Belly did well to kill time and slowly move the ball.

I got a blitzed on the ball carrier finally late in the half … but I just could not get a handle of that slippery ball.   Eventually, it popped and squireted out back to mid-field.

It was all a bit too much – the bashed and bruised Gobbos ran out of time and teammates to secure the equalizer. TöeJam falls 0-1.

I made some key mistakes in this game and really lost sight of some of my special rules. I need to do some prep work before next game to get back into a better coaching mind.

Hobby work,  I got back to work on this set of stairs.  And things seemed to turn out well with it.

With the handrails and doorway it looks good. I’ll get to repainting the whole building this week.

INFINITY – to the surprise of the Sunday gaming group I showed up to play some infinity. They are on their second / or third week of a learn to play league.  I’ve been wanting to come down… but the day conflicts with my normal Sunday home schedule. But this weekend I got lucky.

I got a 200 point match in with Darren “Gamer Geek” from the club. He’s learning the game just as I am.

Infinity is a very crunchy rules game when compared to Dark-Age. It’s very rules dense and has lots of granular bits to learn to really get a handle on things. I know I’ll need lots of games to really figure out how to use my USAriadna.

I had fun – and we ended up with a draw. I amassed more primary objectives. But my opponent scored extra bonus points in the end.

Thanks to my opponents… it was an encouraging hobby week.  I’m hoping to get some more hobby time in this week… we will see.

Blood Bowl – Stunty Leeg – wk 2

Well on Tuesday I had my second match for the Stunty Leeg.  This time my opponent was BOOM BOOM POW – a Squig Herders goblin team. And dang were those Squigs vicious.

The squigs won the flip and received the ball first. The kick was a high floater and the gobbo caught it directly. Soon the rest of the herders moved to protect the ball carrier.

The squigs made short work at knocking my goblins out. Luckily I only lost 2 the whole match to being “eaten “.

Most of the first half the Herders concentrated on knocking my gobbos out of the game- and slowly moving the ball towards the end zone.

I put a stop to that by bouncing my pogoer into the scrum and freeing the ball from the carriers grip.  The ball bounced chaotically around the pitch.

Only to end up with the little herder named “Chop”… who then did his best to avoid further hits from my goblins.

Try as I may / the dice had other ideas. With only a few rounds to go in the half that little jerk Chop sprinted in for the score.

TöeJam regrouped and received the kick with a couple of rounds before the half. I’d had enough of the running from the squigs so I put both chainsaw wielding looneys on the line – hoping to knock some squigs out of the game for good.

TöeJam managed to put the hurt on some squigs – but they failed to get the call done the field. The drive stalled on a slip-up trying to get through a Herders tackle zone.

On to the second half … TöeJam receives.

Flash the pogoer quickly gathers up the ball and the rest of the team builds a wall to protect him.

Looking for the equalizer – Flash moves to mid field.  The way forward is looking pretty clear.

But … nuffle … the dice god does not agree.

The crafty Herder rounds the line of protection – and soon a blitzer has dislodged the ball. – the ball bounces this way and that … across the pitch… gobbos on both teams try to catch it … but it just kept going.

Until… a lone squig herder got a lucky bounce …  and I a failed re-roll to change matters.

The little guy ran full out to get a second score … to secure the win. Then he stopped at the end line – so his buddies could hit some more of TöeJams goblins.

That’s when a lone TöeJam gobbo had had enough of the showboating. He sprinted across the pitch – going for it … and making the shoe string (or should that be toe jam) tackle. Dropping the ball carrier at the end line – the ball landing next to him.

Chop … the Squig Herder first half hero sprinted over to try and pick up the ball and take it in again … but he failed to pick the ball up this time.

The end of the match came seconds later. TöeJam 0 – BOOM BOOM Pow 1.

It was a fun match – I’ve learned a few things after my long layoff of playing boodbowl… and I hope some better strategies for my next match.
