Hobby Outlook – 2.17.17

It has been an early spring like time here … the snows have given over to rain.  Lots of rain… the rivers are high – and more rain is coming.  Our back yard is a pond… But after over an inch and a half a rain in a 24hr period that tends to happen.

Typically we get lots of rain – over the winter and spring but mid February is slightly early for “spring”.

I am hoping that the freezing temps are going away.  Especially  on my early weekend morning outings to toss some discs around.  Frozen fingers and hard discs don’t help my score lol.

As far as the hobby stuff goes – its all been in limbo since my last post a week or so ago.  I have been working on other outside projects between rains.  I really need to get ahead of things this year as we have a fairy busy summer scheduled.

I do have some clarity on one thing… I will not be attending OFCC this year.  Why? Mostly because I will be out of the state – on a summer trip to New Mexico to visit family friends.  This road trip will last a week and we hope to see a few sights along the way.  We made the plans for the time that would work for my wife and I’s work schedule along with my friend in New Mexico’s schedules.  I hadn’t noticed that it was the same time as OFCC till this last week.

I find that missing OFCC this year has lightened my mental work load… I don’t need to spend time painting an army – or preparing to play.  Which isn’t that bad I guess… I have not played 40k for well over a year… maybe two?  I’m finding it hard to justify 40k still occupying a slot in my “hobby-sphere”.  The whole thing has me looking at all my hobby stuff – and needing to come to some solutions for where I am spending my time and money.  I anticipate this being a future post… as I start to come to terms with things a bit better.

I did get out with family over the last weekend… we ended up going to the Portland Winter Light Festival.  It was lots of fun, even in the typical Portland rain.  I got a few cool photos… and I plan to go again next year.  It really felt like a perfect Portland type event.

The Past Few Weeks in Hobby – 8.8.16

It’s been a busy mid summer. Hanging out, relaxing and just trying to live in the moment.  With mid-summer drawing to a close I thought I’d better get an update posted before summer was gone.

First off, I did end up going to OFCC this year. As a visitor and not really a participant.  I was an alternate “ringer” for Infinity just in case they needed one to balance things. Turns out I wasn’t needed.

It was great to go without any real schedule or pressure to play. I met up with friends and got to play a game of Dark-Age.  Here are some shots of the battle … Against my friend Josh’s Skarrd … A similar list I had played him before. I played Brood – but my lack of play time shows – my tactics were horrible.

I took the Howler – but got totally out of position with him – and really left my center open. I’m the end – it took o my 3 rounds to be tabled lol. Was fun to play – and remember how much I want to play more.

The rest of OFCC was looking good. Here are some of the armies that caught my eye. – Infinity as well as Warhammer 40,000.

All the sights make me want to get back on a team next year and participate. Initial thoughts are that I get those Harlequins back on the table. With a year to go till next OFCC I may try.

What’s left? …  I got my grunts done for Infinity over the week since OFCC.

I also got this figure done from operation ice storm.

Lastly, I got a couple buildings/ ruins done for Epic 40k.

Ok- that’s it for now. My current project plans are to get back to work on some yurt projects (window, porch and new tub). Also planning to wrap up my USAriadna soon – and get my Brood complete.

New Year – New Projects

I’ve been slowly gathering a few things in hopes of tackling a few projects this year. I also want to try and finish up things started last year.

In my list for New Years completion must do’s..

1) Dark Age factions complete – I really want to bang out the CORE and the Outcasts. Mostly because I want to play the game more.  And with two painted forces it will be easier to get some new folks interested in the game.

2) Infinity – again finish up factions painting. Unfortunately, I have 3 factions to do. So first I want to finish the USAriadna. Then I’ll re-evaluate the rest from there… Depending on project #3 below.

3) Game board- specifically built for Dark-Age but usable for Infinity as well. I’ve picked up foam board to start this. I need to find a few more items before I launch into it. Also, I really want projects #1 & 2 above done before I go into it.

4) Harlequins – yes I finally have a spark and a theme for this. My hope is to have anew army ready for OFCC (end of July).

5) To go along with #4 I’ve picked up a few items for a show piece conversion for my army plan…  See if you can guess from the images below…

These will all be part of the build.  I plan to start right away. I’ll be posting up the project scope soon I hope.

6) lastly on this list … I picked up this for my corsairs … Someday I’ll build it lol – hopefully his year.
