This Week in Hobby ‚Äď 6.14.17

It’s been a busy week. Working overtime and several Saturdays. Really is cutting into getting hobby stuff done lol.   But I’ve made some progress on things.

I reused the tin from the old sheds we tore down to protect the wall for the woodshed area.

I’ve also got the woodshed area framed …

… tonight I’ll try to get the rafters in – and sow blocking.  I should have to tin roof on by tomorrow. Then it’s on to the larger roof to cover the area between the garage and tall shed.

I have had time to start priming my larger industrial MDF terrain. I’ll be using the rusty red as a base – then I’ll try out using salt as a weathering method.

Lastly, I’ve decided to take the dive into Arena Rex after picking this set up at a great discount (used).

I have really loved the look of these figures … I’m planning to purchase a couple more. And I’m really looking forward to making my own arena ūüėĄ.

That’s it for me.  I’m hoping to wrap up the construction this weekend so I can get back to game related stuff for a few afternoons. Next after a short build break on the list will be back to yurt stuff.

This Week in Hobby ‚Äď 6.9.17

I’ve been working on outside projects this week. No hobby to speak of… I’m trying to focus on a few big things so I can get back to my hobby time lol.

My initial project started with stripping off old water damaged fiberboard from my woodshed area.  Cutting out rot and replacing lumber.  I’m redoing the plywood siding as well on this end of the shed.

With that complete – I added new tarpaper felt.

Which is where I left off. Tonight after work I’ll repurpose the old tin from the old sheds we tore down for siding. I’m intending for this small alcove to be the close winter storage of firewood.  The old tin will do nicely to protect the wall from the stacked wood.

Ok – back to work!

Hobby Outlook – 2.17.17

It has been an early spring like time here … the snows have given over to rain. ¬†Lots of rain… the rivers are high – and more rain is coming. ¬†Our back yard is a pond… But after over an inch and a half a rain in a 24hr period that tends to happen.

Typically we get lots of rain – over the winter and spring but mid February is slightly¬†early for “spring”.

I am hoping that the freezing temps are going away. ¬†Especially ¬†on my early weekend morning outings to toss some discs around. ¬†Frozen fingers and hard discs don’t help my score lol.

As far as the hobby stuff goes Рits all been in limbo since my last post a week or so ago.  I have been working on other outside projects between rains.  I really need to get ahead of things this year as we have a fairy busy summer scheduled.

I do have some clarity on one thing… I will not be attending OFCC this year. ¬†Why? Mostly because I will be out of the state – on a summer trip to New Mexico to visit family friends. ¬†This road trip will last a week and we hope to see a few sights along the way. ¬†We made the plans for the time that would work for my wife and I’s work schedule along with my friend in New Mexico’s schedules. ¬†I hadn’t noticed that it was the same time as OFCC till this last week.

I find that missing OFCC this year has lightened my mental work¬†load… I don’t need to spend time painting an army – or preparing to play. ¬†Which isn’t that bad I guess… I have not played 40k for well over a year… maybe two? ¬†I’m finding it hard to justify 40k still occupying a slot in my “hobby-sphere”. ¬†The whole thing has me looking at all my hobby stuff – and needing to come to some solutions for where I am spending my time and money. ¬†I anticipate this being a future post… as I start to come to terms with things a bit better.

I did get out with family over the last weekend… we ended up going to the Portland Winter Light Festival. ¬†It was lots of fun, even in the typical Portland rain. ¬†I got a few cool photos… and I plan to go again next year. ¬†It really felt like a perfect Portland type event.
